If your children are too young to ride a horse on a trail ride, many stables offer pony rides so young kids can get on the back of a "real" horse. They can also pet, brush or feed the pony treats.

One way to hearken back to the basics while on your visit is to ride the rugged mountainous terrain atop a horse as was done in the old days. However, if you are especially timid around equine or unsure of your confidence atop a horse, consider a different activity. For a horseback riding adventure, chaps or other rub-proof pants may be recommended. Consult your vendor regarding footwear: but as a rule of thumb, wear sturdy, waterproof, boots or shoes.
