Aikido - 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays & Wednesdays
Improve balance, increase flexibility and develop power through training in this Japanese martial art. Redirect an attacker's energy and use that energy to neutralize the attack. No class December 25, 2013 and January 1, 2014.
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays
A class for beginning to advanced yoga students who would like to experience a gentle and welcoming class. Sessions will focus on breathing, asana (poses) and meditation practice. Examine the benefits of yoga and how to make regular yoga practice part of your life. Find challenge within your own practice and enjoy being a part of the yoga community. TRX® Suspension Training - 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays
TRX® Suspension Training is the strength training system that is changing the way professional athletes and fitness experts train. Participants use their own body as the resistance load to strengthen and tone with the core active at all times. Every exercise can be instantly modified for increased or decreased difficulty. A type of "functional fitness," the TRX program gives participants the opportunity to exercise the way they move in life and is often considered safer and more beneficial than traditional weight training. Classes are taught by Chad Young, who is certified as a TRX® Suspension trainer. Space available on a first-come, first-served basis and reservations are required. Call 970-479-2292.
Children's Art - 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Fridays
VRD staff will provide materials and teach some simple techniques that are too messy or too tough to try to do on your own at home. Plan to have a great time while you make a mess. Attend for 30 to 90 minutes in the 2-hour window. Drop-In: $5.
Paint Your Own Pottery & Glass Fusing - You choose and buy unpainted pottery that becomes your canvas. Paint simple designs or a masterpiece then we glaze and fire. Make a gift, design a keepsake or personalize your morning coffee mug. Open to all ages; only ages 13 and up can fuse glass. Drop-In: $5 studio fee; purchase pottery from $5 or glass from $26.
Jewelry Making - 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays
Students will learn a number of skills such as bending wire, beading, hammering metal and more as they create jewelry under the skilled guidance of a Nadia Olker. Hand-make a gift for somebody special! Ages 13 to Adult. $80 for 4-week (includes $20 materials fee), $30 to drop-in (includes $10 in materials).
Open Art Studio - 5:45 to 8 p.m. Fridays
Learn to shape clay, construct with slabs, throw on the wheel (*reservations required), paint pottery, fuse glass or all of the above. This is an open studio format (and price); you will learn beginning skills then work on your own and with others. $5 studio fee + price of materials.
Kids in the Kitchen - 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays
Adults and children can have a great time and eat some yummy food while children learn math, cooking skills and more. $5 per child (parents free) includes Imagination Station entry.
